A day of imperial history, three UNESCO sites
This trip brings together three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Kairouan, the first holy city of the Maghreb, the amphitheatre of El Jem and the medina of Sousse.
With a private car you plan the day your way: more time at the Colosseum, a pastry stop in Kairouan or a late afternoon on the beach.
Your day, step by step
- Kairouan (UNESCO): The Great Mosque of Uqba, one of the oldest in the Muslim world, the Aghlabid basins and the medina, famous for its carpets and makroud pastries.
- El Jem (UNESCO): The 3rd-century Roman amphitheatre, one of the largest and best preserved in the world. You can walk through the underground galleries and climb the tiers.
- Sousse (UNESCO): The medina, its ribat and souks, then a break on Boujaafar beach at the end of the day.
Great Mosque of Kairouan: non-Muslim visitors can enter the courtyard outside prayer times. Wear clothes covering shoulders and knees.
